It's Time to Dance!

You are invited to our Student Recital this Saturday, June 25th!  Please join us for an evening of dance and community.  There will be dancing and refreshments.  Admission is free.  Last year's Recital was a grand time and we are working hard to make this Recital just as much fun!

Doors open at 7:30 pm
Show begins at 8:00 pm

Location:  The Portico is an old southern church that has been converted into a wonderful and welcoming space for performances. It is full of art and character.

Directions: 3233 High Shoals Rd, Bishop GA - This is the closest address to The Portico but is actually located a little past The Portico.

To get to the Portico from Watkinsville, take Highway 441 south to Highway 186. The turn from 441 to 186 is right before you get to the town of Bishop, and there is a Golden Pantry on the corner. The town of High Shoals is approximately five miles down Highway 186. You will cross the bridge over the falls, and the church will be on the right.

The key points to watch for are the Bridge over the Shoals and the two old churches across the road from each other. The church on the right is The Portico.  Please feel free to email if  you have any questions.

Natakiya, Ariana and the students of Kangari Tribal Dance

New Location!

Classes are starting at our new location this week!  Please come and join Natakiya as she teaches at Studio Dance Academy (near Home Depot).  Here is the link to the map.  We are so excited to be starting classes at this wonderful facility and Natakiya is happily creating new lesson plans.  Class times are listed below, please check out the Class tab for more information.

Tuesday Basic class - Noon to 1 pm
Wednesday Basic Fitness - 6:30 - 7:30 pm
Wednesday Upper Level - 7:30 - 8:30 pm

Music Workshop Weekend!

This Saturday is going to be a fun-filled musicarama with Ziah and Majda of Awalim!  Ziah is teaching a zils workshop and Majda is teaching about Middle Eastern musical modes.  Natakiya is going and has been preparing by researching and reading about Maqamat.  It's truly fascinating, whether you're a dancer or a musician or both like we are!

Choreography Intensive

Today is the second installment of Awalim's choreography intensive!  Both Natakiya and Ariana are attending.  So far it's been a fascinating class with a lot of intense introspection of music.  The rest of the intensive is guaranteed to knock our socks off.  Watch out - pretty soon Kangari will be rockin' the house with some amazing choreographic skillz (with help from Ziah, Majda and other members of Banat Almeh too!!)
